Vanity games or MARIAs/ Installation/ Ukraine,GogolFest 2013
by Olga Yanul and Mariya Sylnyagina

Here it is, our life cycle. The season of the current and the holy. The season of religion that has lost its primary meaning and serves as merely an attractive cover. The season of new religion, consumer religion, according to the canons of which anyone can become saint. The right to fashionable canonization belongs to you. Try the image on or look inside to see the emptiness.
The installation itself – is three human size digital prints on canvas. The three ladies, i.e. Maria's – are symbols of today's consumerism, “religious” beliefs, women, social symbols and contemporary vanity easily gained by social media. The images were specially created by Olga Yanul, and the crowns for the Maries are specially made headpieces by designer Maria Sylnyagina. Thus, we are showing the circle of creating the piece (i.e. item – crown), consuming it in virtual way by trying it on via our installation, becoming a part of holy act of becoming saint through this trial and gaining fake fame via social media pictures.
Note: all the pictures of participants are cell-phone made and copied from users social-networks accounts.
